Glasgow Dads, We’re Back
📢Calling all Glasgow Dads 📢 Our Glasgow services are coming back!
Our Glasgow playgroups, workshops and our Young Dads program are returning, bringing more opportunities for Dads and their wee ones to connect, learn, and grow together. We can’t wait to see you!
Andy ☝️
Our New Glasgow family Worker
Our new Family Worker, Andy will be providing support to Young Dads as well as running our playgroups and workshops in Glasgow!
Andy joins us with a wealth of experience in helping people be better versions of themselves and loves being a dad to his daughter more than anything. He has taught teenagers, trained adults, advocated on others’ behalf and is looking forward to developing a network of dads and family activities in Glasgow for them and their children. Andy also is a bit of a coffee connoisseur, so if you come along to a playgroup or workshop you can expect to find some good quality coffee. ☕
Location, Location, Location
Our base-of-operations in Glasgow has changed from Easterhouse to Maryhill where we can collaborate with Homestart Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire and other community organisations using the Community Central Hall. We will now be holding playgroups and workshops at Community Central Hall on 292-316 Maryhill Rd, G20 7YE with some of our workshops taking place at Home-start Hub on Avenuepark Street.
For the Community Central Hall, if you are bringing the car, the nearest parking is at the Lidl around the corner or the Firhill Complex. In terms of buses, the 60 to Easterhouse and the 61 to Shettleston stop just outside the building and St George’s Cross Subway Station is about a 10 minute walk away. And don’t worry, the new venue does have baby changing facilities.
What Can you Expect from Dads Rock in Glasgow?
All about the Playgroups
The playgroups will take place will take place every Saturday from 10-11.30 am, starting from the 22nd of February. Our playgroups are open to all Dads and kids aged 0-5.
Well first of all…we play. There will be a story and a snack at every playgroup, and toys a-plenty. This makes our playgroups a great place for you to come along and spend some time with your kids.
We try really hard to make sure that our playgroups have a supportive and relaxed atmosphere where any Dad can just come along with their kids and have a nice morning.
Another awesome thing about our playgroups is our Dads. They are all experiencing or have experienced similar things to you when it comes to looking after children, so are usually pretty keen for a chat, or are happy to offer support if you need it. We highly recommend our playgroup to new Dads for this very reason.
And if you are already a member of our WhatsApp Community, the Glasgow Playgroup gives you a good excuse to meet some of the Dads you have been talking to online in person. (And if you haven’t joined yet, find out how to here)
Our playgroups are free and donations are welcome in the form of money or baked goods 😉
Our Workshops
As you may or may not know, we provide free workshops to provide support to Dads and help teach some essential skills. So what workshops do we have coming up in Glasgow?:
Dads Antenatal Workshop - These workshops are there to support Dads to be. They cover a wide range of practical skills as well as having room for discussion and questions about being a Dad.
Dads Hairstyle Workshop - These workshops are for Dads and kids to learn about hair care and to teach Dads how to do a variety of hairstyles.
First Aid for Babies and Toddlers Workshop - These workshops for all Dads, Mums and carers cover the fundamentals of First Aid, with a focus on Children and Babies.
Some of our workshops are held at the Community Central Hall and some are at a different location just up the road from the playgroup at Homestart.
Young Dads in Glasgow
Scotland has a high rate of young and teen Dads, which is why we started our Young Dads project. By providing 1:1 support for Dads aged 30 and under, we help them build resilience, break the cycle of adversity and trauma, and create brighter futures for both themselves and their children.
Through this project, we offer a wide range of support tailored to each Young Dad's needs. This includes guidance on mental well-being, financial management, parenting skills, job search assistance, and much more. Our goal is to empower Dads with the skills and confidence they need to thrive.
Andy has already started working with our Young Dads in Glasgow but currently has capacity for some new referrals so if you or someone you know (in Glasgow) is in need of this kind of support you can call him on 07564864998 or email Andy@dadsrock.org.uk
Glasgow Kiltwalk
All our services are free and we have to fundraise to keep it all going so we are hoping to have a Dads Rock team at the Kiltwalk this year.
If you have never heard of the Kiltwalk before, it is a massive event where people raise money for Scottish charities by - you guessed it - going for a walk while wearing a kilt.
Glasgow Kiltwalk is happening on the weekend of the 26th and 27th of April 2025. There are three distances available for the Kiltwalk: the Mighty Stride (23 miles), the Big Stroll (14 miles) and the Wee Wander (3 miles).
So if you are interested in helping us out by raising some money you can join #TeamDadsRock and we will give you a FREE place, a #TeamDadsRock t-shirt and all the information you need to help you fundraise.
If 20 people sign up and raise just £50 each, with that extra 25% in gift aid - we can raise £1,250 to support even more families in Scotland.
If that sounds like a good deal, you can register your interest with us here: Kiltwalk
