What's On For Dads in April?

April begins with our Playgroups! They’re free for all Dads and children ages 0-5, and take place on Saturday (Edinburgh and Glasgow) and Sunday (Edinburgh) from 10-11:30am. They are the perfect opportunity to play with your wee one, chat to other dads over a cuppa and meet the Dads Rock team.

Our North Ayrshire Baby Group is taking a short break at the beginning of April but will be back from 17th every Wednesday in Stevenston, 6:30-7:30 - sign up here! This group is free for all new Dads with babies under 1 to come for a cuppa and chat. At the end of April we’ll be starting a new Dads and Baby group in Edinburgh so if you’re keen to join, let Greg know (greg@dadsrock.org.uk).

Our Hairstyling Workshop is back in Glasgow on Saturday 13th, 10am. These have been really popular, and teach Dads the basics, from perfecting a ponytail, braiding and more. All you need to bring is a hairbrush, some clips and hair ties, and of course your little one. This is a great way to connect with your child and get involved in their hair routine!

The brilliant Raising Children With Confidence course is back in Edinburgh! Starting on Monday 15th April, it’s a 6 week course to help you raise confident and resilient children. We’ll share with you the latest findings from evidence and research into the development of emotional wellbeing.  From brain development and emotions, to mental health and empathy, this course is suitable for all Dads, Mums, Carers and Guardians of children aged 0-11. Places are going quick, so book your spot now!

If you’re struggling to get your little one to sleep, our Sleep Workshop is taking place online on Wednesday 17th, 7-9pm. How long and when your child sleeps will have a huge impact on your life. It’s easy to be unsure as to where to turn to and many private sleep workshops can be expensive. Our trained team is on hand to help you. These workshops run 7-9pm online and are open to all Dads, Mums, Carers across the UK with children aged 6 months+. From learning how sleep actually works, to understanding sleep behaviour and looking at common issues, this is the perfect workshop to help the whole family get a good night's sleep.

If you’re expecting a new baby our April Antenatal Workshops are in Glasgow and Edinburgh on Tuesday 23rd, 7-9pm. These 2 hour workshops allow Dads to learn about feeding, sleeping, bathing and nappies. It’s a very chilled out and interactive workshop where Dads can ask any questions they have about their little ones.

Finally, our Dads Trip to Edinburgh Zoo will take place on Saturday 27th, beginning at 10am. From big cats to tiny monkeys, exotic and Scottish animals, this is the perfect place to see some amazing wildlife! This trip is open to all Dads and children ages 0-8. We’ll be taking a self-guided tour around the zoo, and there’s something for everyone to enjoy, big or small! Priority given to our regular playgroup and workshop dads so email us for the sign up link!

March 2024 Roundup

Dads Rock were very busy in March - it really flew by! Workshops we delivered included Antenatal, Hairstyling and First Aid: future workshops and sign-up information can be found here

Our Greg went viral when he passed a course with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers thanks to a grant from Edinburgh & Lothian Trust Fund. He's now able to talk to expectant and new fathers about breastfeeding, its impact on Mum and how to support them - leading to better outcomes for families. We will be able to give better support to new Dads and plan to run Breastfeeding workshops in the future!

Our Dads took a trip to Glasgow Science Museum, which was so much fun! This was the perfect place to learn all about science, space, the human body and plenty more. We also launched our first North Ayrshire Dads Trips, with a beach walk along Ardrossan Beach. This was a casual meetup, allowing Dads and their children to enjoy the Scottish sunshine(!) and meet our NHS Dads Worker, Ryan.

Some student from Napier University joined us at one of our playgroups to do some research into being a father, gender stereotypes, differences in support between parents and how we can improve a dads journey. Watch this space!
