Students Rock
Dads Rock is delighted to welcome students in again for work placements as part of their degree. This helps us engage with fathers, their children and families across Scotland. Coming from both Edinburgh Napier University and University of Edinburgh, we have been able to add students to our team from Marketing, Finance and Social Care. We spoke to them to learn more about how they are adjusting to their roles and their perspectives on Dads Rock.
Social Work student Will joined the team in November. He speaks positively about his role at Dads Rock, saying “The placement with Dads Rock has been a great opportunity to develop my social work practice, by working with families who are facing complex circumstances. Fathers are often under-represented by the childcare system, so this enables a really unique work experience in the field of social care”.
Shannon, our Marketing student joined the team in January. She said “I’ve had a fantastic time in my placement with Dads Rock so far. The team has made adjusting to the role really easy, and I’ve enjoyed putting the knowledge I’ve gained from university into practice. I’ve learned lots about how under-represented fathers are, and think that this has created a really unique marketing opportunity that helps people”.
Our CEO and co-founder, Thomas, said that “Offering student placements is vital, and I'd recommend all charities and businesses to offer them. Students bring so much to an organisation. It's really worthwhile having someone who can ask questions from a new point of view and look at what you do through a different lens. It gives you the chance to think about why you do what you do, and if there's things that can be improved. It's great for morale within the team too. Overall it's a really great thing to offer and it's been an enjoyable process for Dads Rock to be involved.”
