February Round Up!
Happy 10th Birthday to Dads Rock!
The first ever Dads Rock playgroup was held in February 2012. Thomas Lynch and David Marshall started Dads Rock as a reaction. As two Dads with toddlers, they felt it was time to do something about the lack of services for Dads, about the lack of visibility of Dads and to shout from the rooftops about how important Dads are for their children. They wanted to help Dads, mums, families and children by improving support for them and giving them the best start. Having fun was also important, as was a love of music. 10 years on and Dads Rock has supported and inspired thousands of Dads and families through playgroups, workshops, music lessons and support services. Thomas reflects on 10 years of Dads Rock in his recent blog, Dads Rock at 10.
We'll be marking our 10th birthday in different ways over the next few months, including our Father’s Day Takeover event, so keep an eye on our website and social media to see what we're up to and help us celebrate!
February activities
On Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th January we enjoyed a trip to the National Museum of Scotland, giving Dads a chance to meet other Dads and enjoy exploring the museum with their kids. Our next monthly Dads Trip is to the V&A Dundee on Saturday 25th March. Booking will open soon.
We were delighted to have 29 attendees joining us for the first week of our 6 week online Raising Children with Confidence course on 23rd February. The first session covered supporting children’s mental health and wellbeing.
We launched Dads in the Wood Glasgow, which is running weekly on Saturday mornings at Baltic Street Adventure Playground. Book now for March. We also ran more of our in person workshops in Edinburgh and Glasgow, including Hair Styling in Glasgow. (Pictured below)
Help us spread the word
We want as many people as possible to hear about Dads Rock and the free activities and services that we offer Dads and families. You can help get the word out by telling your friends, family and colleagues about us, giving us a shout out on social media, or just sharing our posts.
You can also help us out by nominating Dads Rock if your work has a Charity of the Year programme. Or if you're a regular at church, could you organise a collection at your church this Father's Day, Sunday 19th June? We'd be very grateful if you were able to organise a collection to mark our 10th year and help us to continue running and expanding our valuable services for Dads, kids and families.
If you would like to fundraise for Dads Rock or find out about other ways to support us, please visit our website or email Lisa at lisam@dadsrock.org.uk.
