We Rock!

The awesome work that the Dads Rock Academy provides has been recognised by many across the country. In March 2021 we were lucky enough to be awarded the ‘Outstanding Musical Initiative’ award at the Music and Drama Education Awards 2021, which was held virtually. We were kindly nominated for this award that recognises an initiative which has improved music provision for students of any age.

The category was tough and we were against some fantastic finalists. Watching us win this award was incredible and we are grateful that other people feel that the work we do with Dads Rock Academy makes a difference. This last year was tough, we had to completely rethink the set up of how we can deliver the opportunity to an equal standard of excellence through the virtual environment.

Thomas Lynch, Co-Founder of Dads Rock said, “It was amazing to win the award, especially given how tough the last year has been on our tutors and students, it’s a real testament to their determination to Rock out! We’ve been running Dads Rock Academy at Edinburgh College since we started, most of our tutors previously attended the college, and have a real passion for helping young people and their family to make music and have fun. Winning the award is all down to their hard work.”

One of our tutors, Daniel, said: “I joined Dads Rock as a volunteer in its first year and was hooked by its purpose of making music tuition and performance opportunities accessible to more people. Bringing parents into the group created a new experience in music I’d never had before. Being part of Dads Rock with the support of Edinburgh College’s staff and facilities as a student helped create this amazing group. To be recognised with this award shows the outstanding contributions from everyone involved.”

The biggest thank you of all goes out to all our students, past and present. It is thanks to all of you that we have been able to celebrate winning this award. We hope to bring in some new generations of students to continue growing our Dads Rock Academy family.
