groups
In March we have a pretty busy schedule for our groups.
In Edinburgh we have our Dads & Baby group on Tuesday evenings as well as our weekend Playgroups every Saturday and Sunday at 10am.
In Glasgow we have our Playgroup in Maryhill every Saturday morning.
In North Ayrshire we have our Irvine Dads Group on Sundays at 10.30am and our Three Towns Dads Group on Wednesdays at 6.30pm.
Don’t forget our WhatsApp groups! If you’re not part of our community you can join here: WhatsApp
TRIPS
We do not have any trips planned this month, however we are looking for people to join us at the Glasgow Kiltwalk in April.
We will be doing the Glasgow Kiltwalk on the 26th of April and will be taking part in the Big Stroll (14 miles) and possibly the Wee Wander (3 miles) with families if there is enough interest. So if you’re up for having a nice day out and helping us with some fundraising you can sign up here: TeamDadsRock
We will also be taking part in the Aberdeen (June), Dundee (August) and Edinburgh (September) Kiltwalk events and you can join our team through the same link!
Workshops
In March we are holding a few workshops:
The first one is our Dads Antenatal Workshop, which will be held in Glasgow on the 5th of March and online on the 24th of March at 7pm. Our Antenatal Workshops are there to teach Dads-to-be some essential practical skills (like changing nappies, feeding babies etc.) as well as provide a space for discussions and questions about becoming a Dad for the first time.
We are also holding a First Aid Workshop For Dads and Mums in Edinburgh on the 20th of March at 7pm. Our First Aid Workshops are facilitated by ‘First Stop Safety Training’ and are a great resource for any parents or carers of babies or children. The two hour session will cover the fundamentals of First Aid, with a particular focus on First Aid for children and Babies.
All of our workshops are free, however we ask that attendees consider making a suggested donation of £10 to help cover costs. You can pay on the night, or here: Dads Rock Donate
You can find out more about all our workshops using the link here: Parenting Workshops
february ROUND-UP
Despite February being the shortest month, we managed to do quite a lot of stuff.
Alongside building relationships with our young dads in Glasgow our new Family Worker Andy has been busy moving our base-of-operations from Easterhouse to Maryhill. Here we can collaborate with Homestart Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire and other community organisations using the Community Central Hall. Using the new venue, we re-started our Glasgow Saturday Playgroups and held a First Aid for Dads and Mums Workshop. We look forward to seeing more of you in Glasgow.
We also expanded our projects in North Ayrshire by starting our Irvine Dads Group, which is held in the Lanfine Community Centre on Sundays at 10.30am.
On the 11th of February we celebrated Dads Rock’s 13th Birthday! In 2012 we held our first Dads Playgroup in Sighthill and we’re thrilled to have grown so much over the past 13 years. We hope to be able to continue supporting Dads and families across Scotland for years to come.
Rachel, our new Family worker leading our PS Dads Rock (support for new dads) has been busy talking to all our volunteers as well as running the playgroups on Sunday in Gorgie. Greg continues to work with Young Dads (you can see one learning to change a nappy below) and you can usually find him at our Saturday playgroup in Gorgie.
Lastly, we would like to thank the Greggs Foundation, who have generously provided us with a £1,915 donation to go towards our Glasgow playgroups.
