Jacks Story

Jacks* journey with Dads Rock began over four and a half years ago, when Jack, a Young Dad, sought support during a time of isolation and uncertainty. When our family worker Greg first crossed paths with Jack, he was navigating parenthood with minimal support and a reluctance of asking for help. His social circle was limited outside of his partner and child. Greg remembers an early conversation when Jack said “Why would I rely on anyone else, they’ll just let me down”.

Together, Greg supported Jack on a journey of growth. Recognising his potential and the importance of tailored support, Greg encouraged activities that spoke to Jack's interests and needs.

62% of Dads feel that their mental health impacts their connection with their child (Fathers Network Scotland, 2019), and so Greg knew it was important that Jack take part in things that would help him grow this connection. From cooking classes to stitching and mending workshops, Jack discovered not only practical skills but also a newfound sense of independence within himself. With each session, he grew more confident in his abilities and was more open to forming connections with others.

After supporting Jack for over 4 years, Greg had the honour of standing by Jack's side at his wedding.

Greg recalls leaning over to Jack on the day and whispering “Remember when you told me everyone would let you down? Well, look how many people are here for you today.”
